Case Study

Project:

Local Schools creating poppies to plant at developments

Client:

Berkeley Homes

To commemorate Remembrance Day, for the third year running we worked on a project with Berkeley Homes and local schools to create beautiful displays of poppies for armistice day, planting the flowers outside three of their developments – Knights Quarter in Winchester, Barleycroft in Rudgwick and Leighwood Fields in Cranleigh. This style of project builds excellent relations for the developers with local schools and the parents and pupils.  The schools are keen to share these stories in their weekly newsletters which reach out to parents and guardians, helping to create a positive narrative for the client.

In Winchester we enlisted the help of Henry’s Kindergarten to create a wonderful display of poppies. Each poppy was made from salt dough which were moulded, painted and crafted into individual poppies before being mounted onto canes. We also enlisted the help of Harestock Primary School, who donated 30 poppies to add to the display. Two children came from school to help us plant the poppies at Knights Quarter, where they remained in situ for a week for any passer-by to enjoy.

In Rudgwick, West Sussex, students from Pennthorpe Preparatory School hand-crafted over 100 poppies made from recycled plastic bottles, which were mounted onto green garden canes acting as stems to ‘plant’ at Barleycroft. Three Year 7 students attended the planting with their art teacher, creating a glorious vision of colour for visitors and residents to enjoy, and a perfect mark of respect for the fallen.

In Cranleigh, two talented students from independent day school Jigsaw School created 80 hand-crafted plastic poppies to plant at the entrance to Leighwood Fields. These poppies, along with handmade wreaths, created a striking memorial display for passers-by to view.

These projects resulted in all schools sharing the story in their weekly newsletters and achieving excellent coverage in the local papers.
